Transforming Environments with Digital Printing Pizzazz
Westwind Design | Calgary, Alberta
When you ask Ryan Pearse, graphic designer for Westwind Design Group in Calgary, Alberta, what he loves most about his job, he answers without hesitation: “The creativity.”
With roots in museum design, Westwind’s team of nine employees specializes in creating a wide range of “environments.” They design, produce and install retail displays, signage, wall, window and floor graphics, custom desks and kiosks, and even custom apps.
In-house production speed
Westwind recently brought digital print production in-house with a Roland DG TrueVIS VG-540 54-inch large-format inkjet printer/cutter, which has provided the team with much-needed control over output scheduling and quality. “The VG is fast, reliable, and easy to use,” he said. “Having these capabilities available to us 24/7 has been great.”
Westwind prints signage and environmental graphics for museums and interpretive centers, including interior signage, wayfinding signage, donor walls, and wall and window graphics. They also work with a variety of companies on all aspects of retail design and layout. In addition, they design and produce corporate branding packages that include signage, banners, decals and vehicle graphics.
“The capabilities of our Roland DG make so many of our creative solutions possible.”
Versatility promotes creativity
Westwind’s first vehicle wrap job with its new Roland DG VG-540 was a doozy: wrapping a trailer for the iconic Calgary Stampede. Westwind designed, printed and installed custom graphics for the trailer, which replaced graphics from a competitor. “That was a great client experience,” said Pearse. “They were really pleased with how the new graphics came out.”
For client Brookfield Residential, Westwind designed a 10’ x 15’ pop-up booth with signage, interactive digital displays and a custom digital app. They used their VG-540 to print a full set of wall and floor graphics. “We tried to create a space that was inclusive, fun and attracted people,” said Pearse. “We hit our client’s three-month traffic target for the project in three weeks, and they were extremely happy.”
The team at Westwind doesn’t shy away from a challenge. “The capabilities of our Roland DG make so many of our creative solutions possible,” said Pearse.
