Cutting Edge Printing Technology Boosts Profits in Historic Town
CR Graphics | Springville, Utah
Springville, Utah, located near Salt Lake City, was founded in the 1800s along a wagon route used by Mormon pioneers and ‘49ers. In this historic setting, Matt Shaw is creating exciting new markets for his dad’s company, CR Graphics.
CR Graphics began over 30 years ago as a screen-printing business and has grown to be a full-service sign shop equipped with the latest in digital printing technology. The company, which employs anywhere from six to10 full-time staffers, operates out of a 4,000 square-foot standalone facility.
Superior Print Quality
Matt trained as a graphic designer and worked for CR Graphics while attending college. Early on, he saw the potential UV printing offered, and convinced his dad, Rusty, to purchase a Roland DG VersaUV, LEC series UV-LED printer/cutter. “We made the switch to Roland DG because we liked the opacities and print quality the Roland DG delivered,” said Matt.
The Shaws soon expanded their Roland DG arsenal with three TrueVIS VG-640 64-inch large-format printer/cutters. “The speed and imaging capabilities of the Roland DGs really set them apart from the competition,” he said.
“We supply the creativity and we let our Roland DGs do the work.”
CR Graphics specializes in decals, banners, indoor and outdoor signage, window, wall and floor graphics, and vehicle lettering, as well as partial and full vehicle graphics.
CR Graphics’ local clients include the police department, and real estate and construction companies. They also provide flat and raised graphics for national manufacturers of truck covers, gun safes, archery equipment and other merchandise. “We like to say that you may not be familiar with our company, but you’ve probably seen our work,” said Matt.
Branching Out
Several years ago, Matt launched a spin-off company, Glyphix-icons.com, to market his raised designs directly to outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes. He also provides raised graphics to Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks and to the neighboring city of Moab.
“We supply the creativity and we let our Roland DGs do the work,” said Matt.
