A New Smile with CAD/CAM Technology
Dr. Richard Rodriguez Part II | Caracas, Venezuela
A patient visited Dr. Rodriguez’s dental office in Caracas, Venezuela, with a severe periodontal problem. He had had multiple extractions due to problems with dental mobility, periodontitis and large cavities. The patient and Dr. Richard decided to proceed with the remaining extractions and place implants on the superior and inferior maxillaries.
The Adventure Begins
The patient began his treatment with the placement of eight implants. The process of cicatrization and osseointegration of the implants took four months.
“This was a job that really changed the patient’s life, and left him looking 10 or 12 years younger with an aesthetic, comfortable and completely functional prosthesis.”
After the placement of impression copings and pick-up copings, Dr. Rodriguez used silicon for the impression of both maxillaries. According to the design, the proper abutments were chosen for a correct insertion of the prosthetics, giving the patient a balanced occlusal load for correct chewing function.
Afterwards, Dr. Rodriguez’s team scanned the models and designed the anatomic structure over four Bicon universal abutments, both on the maxilla and lower jaw.
Time to Mill
In this case, Dr. Rodriguez chose to mill a TRINIA structure for the substructure, and a SHOFU CERAMAGE nano-resin for the aesthetic procedures. The TRINIA was dry-milled using diamond burrs on the Roland DG DGSHAPE DWX-51D CNC dental mill.
The team designed the anatomic structures and verified the occlusion; inspecting the facial proportions and having the patient confirm the dimensional changes.
In addition, they added gingival coloring to the upper part and gave a bit more osseous support, so when the patient is at rest with his mouth closed, the facial proportions are appropriate.
Once in position, they proceeded to make the definitive insertion of each of the prosthetics, verifying the occlusion points.
A New Smile Thanks to Dr. Rodriguez and Roland DGSHAPE Technology
When the prosthesis was fully installed, the patient was extremely happy with his new facial fullness and the changes made by the work done.
“This was a job that really changed the patient’s life, and left him looking 10 or 12 years younger with an aesthetic, comfortable and completely functional prosthesis,” said Dr. Rodriguez.
