Last week, I had the chance to spend some time with Roland DG end users at one of our "Digital Printing Boot Camp” classes, and as always, I enjoyed the experience, and came away impressed. One of the things I particularly noticed was just how varied our users are. Even with a class of about 10, we had Roland DG owners from every region of the US, as well as one from Canada.
What’s your outlook?
Last week, The Big Picture Magazine released a sneak peek of their annual wide-format forecast, and I thought the article was on target, but also had some interesting observations, for example:
A Global Award for the VersaUV LEC
Hey! Our Roland DG VersaUV just earned the Label Industry Global Award for new Innovation at Label Expo this week! How ’bout that!?! The VersaUV has been around for a few years now and although it’s gained some momentum recently, it remains for the large part unknown among most of our target audience.
Monday Moanin'
What’s with all the economists making predictions lately? I suppose that’s what economists are paid to do, but on any given day we can read that the economy is heading into another recession, or that the economy is slowly improving, or some combination of the two. Come on, can’t we all just get along?
To Extend or Not to Extend
Have you ever been stranded by car trouble at a very inconvenient time? My car broke down the other day on the way in to work and made me late to an important meeting.
Why Social Media is P2P, Not B2C or B2B
I have seen a number of posts about the differences between the relevance and effectiveness of B2C (Business to Consumer) and B2B (Business to Business) social media. As someone who has been employed in marketing for many years and used just about every communications tool since Morse Code, I think these discussions miss the point. Social media is all about P2P – i.e., Person-to-Person communications. If we’re treating our audience like we would with a commercial, print ad, sign or banner, we’re not listening, we’re merely generating additional noise.

30,000 package prototypes
In the category of “a picture is worth a thousand words,” this one might be worth 30,000! We’ve been working on a big summer project in our graphic production department. It all started when we were trying to figure out a way to get an actual box prototype – typically, a one-off – in the hands of the readers of Package Design Magazine. We struck on the idea of inserting one in every issue – which presented a monumental task:
Tempted at Every Turn
It happened again. After enjoying my morning oatmeal, I headed off for the Long Beach show and was met with temptation. No… the show wasn’t full of hot guys. But it was full of enthusiastic, creative Roland DG owners and talking to them makes me want a Roland DG product for myself.
