Tools That Bring Out the Best in Roland DG Printer Cutters for Packaging Applications

With a large variety of print-cut machines available, Roland DGA not only has the device that fits your needs, but the tools to fit your workflow. While our printer/cutters are unbeatable for a wide range of applications, they’re especially ideal for producing packaging prototypes and short-runs. With that in mind, I’m devoting this Quick Tip to pointing out some additional tools available for these types of jobs and describing their functions.

XD-CH3

The standard blade holder that comes with your device. If you have multiple blades (like listed below), you can have two blade holders set and ready to use and just switch them out based on your material and needs.

USA-C145-1

The standard 45° blade is your perfect all-around general use blade. It can contour and perforated cut most materials and vinyls without any issues, including heat transfer materials for weeding. This is a great tool for ensuring optimum contour-cutting precision when producing stickers, labels, and more.

USA-C160-1

If you need something a bit more robust, the 60° blade would be an excellent choice. If you do a lot of perforated cutting, this might be a better option than the standard 45° blade. The steeper blade angle will last longer punching through the paper vinyl backing.

CRT-2

Not a blade at all, but a tool for creasing thicker substrates. It replaces the blade (and bladeholder) and leaves indentations/creases instead of cutting. With two different tips to choose from, select the one that works best for your material. The pressure is adjustable in VersaWorks for any thickness of material.

PAD CUTTER SV-2 (VG3-640/LG-640)

Also not a blade, the Pad Cutter is the semi-soft surface the blade impacts with any cutting function. If you do a lot of cutting (especially with paper substrates), and notice the edges aren’t quite smooth, the pad cutter might need to be replaced. This is included in your initial printer installation, so it’s easy to miss.

There you go – some great tools and accessories that you can use to take full advantage of everything your Roland DG printer/cutter can do. These are all available from your dealer or from our online store. Consider obtaining and using one or more of these items to optimize the results of your next printing project.

Enjoy!
